Turn to Page Nine (2011)

Turn to Page Nine was a gallery installation including a removable tabloid-sized sheet with a set of instructions in red vinyl reading:

  1. TEAR OFF A SHEET
  2. FIND A FREE NEWSPAPER
  3. TURN TO PAGE NINE
  4. INSERT YOUR SHEET
  5. LEAVE IT FOR SOMEONE TO FIND

The sheet included a new text, written for the context of the exhibition at SW1 Gallery, which drew links between the works on display and current affairs appearing in national newspapers.

Context

This is part of a series of works that intervene in newspapers. Beginning with Turn to Page Seven and progressing through the pages of a newspaper, in each work Emma hijacks the medium that has been her source material – recycling aspects of the news and broadcasting a new text back out using the same medium.
